How is VivCourt different from hedge funds, banks or other trading firms?
As a proprietary trading firm, we don’t manage outside capital or serve external clients. We trade with our own money. That autonomy gives us the freedom to think independently, act quickly, and stay agile in how we approach the markets.
Our approach spans a broad range of quantitative strategies, including market-making, systematic (quant) trading, and positional trading in energy markets. While some trading firms specialise in a single style, our multifaceted approach reflects our focus on evolving strategies that create lasting edge.
But trading is only part of what defines us. We measure success not just by profit, but by purpose. Our profits help fund social causes, and our people-first culture shapes everything we do.
What trading career paths do you offer?
- Internship: Open to pre-penultimate students. Learn more.
- Graduate Program: Designed for final-year university students or recent graduates. Learn more → Graduate Trader, Graduate Energy Team (Brisbane).
- Experienced Roles: We also hire experienced traders, typically those with backgrounds in the quantitative trading space – check our current openings here.
From day one, you’ll join a trading desk and take on real responsibilities. Career paths are flexible; many of our grads go on to become traders, senior traders, or even team leads. Others explore new directions, like building strategies or mentoring future traders.
What engineering career paths do you offer?
- Graduate Program: Perfect for recent university graduates or those early-on in their careers. Learn more.
- Experienced Roles: We also hire mid-to-senior level engineers – check our current openings here. Most come with experience in low-latency systems or from roles across the broader tech industry.
Engineers usually grow from graduate to mid and senior roles, with the chance to step into leadership positions—whether as a team lead or by heading a whole division in strategy, infrastructure, or platforms.
Do you hire for roles outside of trading and engineering?
Yes – we occasionally hire for business operations roles across areas like finance, people & culture, risk, office management, and more. These roles are posted as needed, so keep an eye on our open positions here.
Do you hire candidates from overseas?
Internship & Graduate Roles: Unfortunately, we only hire candidates who hold Australian or New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency, or full working rights.
Experienced Roles: Depending on the role and candidate, sponsorship may be available. We also provide relocation support for you and your family.
Where will I be working?
Interns and Graduates: You’ll be based at our Sydney HQ. For energy trading graduates, you’ll start in Sydney for training, then move to our Brisbane office. If you’re relocating from New Zealand or interstate, we’ll support you with flights, accommodation, and moving costs. Plus, you’ll be joining a welcoming environment with plenty of mentorship to help you settle in.
Other Roles: Location depends on the role – we have offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam. View office locations here.
Can I work from home? What are the expected hours?
Yes – we offer flexible working for engineering and other non-trading roles. Most teams follow a hybrid model: three days in the office and two days working remotely, coordinated within each team.
For interns and graduates, we ask that you be in the office during onboarding and training. It’s the best way to get fully immersed, meet your team, and get the most from the experience.
Trading roles are on-site due to the nature of our setup. That said, we aim to support flexibility where possible; helping people bring their best selves to work and do their best work. We don’t expect long or unnecessary hours. Your schedule depends on the markets and strategies you’re working with; most markets are open for around six hours a day, and the rest of your time is spent on things like research, reviews, and developing new strategies.
How do employees get involved in community and social impact?
Social impact is built into how we work – it’s not just an add-on. As part of the team, you’ll have access to:
- Donation funds: Typically over $10,000 per person each year, split across two rounds (March and October). You can donate to any registered not-for-profit of your choice.
- Volunteering and events: Get involved in community days, volunteering opportunities, and programs like The Observership Program and One Young World.
- Year-round support: Our dedicated in-house Social Impact team makes it easy to get involved in causes that matter to you.
